💌 WM Digest | July 2

🫡 a salute to the moms, holding it all together

What can I say? It’s hard to feel super patriotic this week after the abysmal showing at the Presidential debate. 😒

What gives me hope, however, is the power that moms can harness when they get together, like the Moms First petition that got a childcare affordability question into the CNN debate in the first place, or the organizing that Chamber of Mothers is doing.

On a smaller scale, seeing what the incredible members of The Society of Working Moms are up to brings me so much joy. (I hate that we felt compelled to band together, but I also love that we are banded together, ya know?)

I hope you all celebrate the 4th of July in whatever way makes you feel good.

My family and I will be attending our small-town parade — our first official post-move family outing! I’ll share pics via the Slack group, but lmk what you and yours are up to🔒️, too!

Until next time…

🔦 MEMBER SPOTLIGHT 🔦

🔗 Patreeya Prasertvit | Chief of Staff | Right Hand | Company Builder -- people, talent & operations
👨‍👩‍👧 Kid: almost 7 months!
📍 Location: between the Chevron and the Waffle Hou... just kidding. Atlanta, GA
💗 Favorite thing about the WM Slack community: My favorite thing is the respect we all have for each other as working moms regardless of our situations, because we know how much grit, endurance, and courage it takes to be a working mom!
📚️ Reading right now: I always have at least 1 fiction and 1 nonfiction going. Right now, it's The Age of Magical Overthinking by Amanda Montell and Happy Place by Emily Henry. Always open to suggestions though!
👀 Hidden talent: When going to a new restaurant, I'm really good at looking at menus in advance and pinpointing the most interesting dishes. Of course, then I'll still take fifteen minutes to decide once I'm there!
💪 A recent win you are celebrating: I just started a new job after experiencing a layoff 6 weeks postpartum. It's been a lot, especially learning how to be away from my daughter for a good portion of the day, but I slowly feel parts of myself that have been dormant coming back to life.
📺️ Favorite way to relax: A salty snack on the couch and an episode of Suits.
🎯 Goal for the upcoming year: I've been trying to embrace the mentality of living "as if." For example, when I was in the throes of postpartum slump and sweatpants city, I remember looking in the bathroom mirror and asking myself, "If I was a person who cared about my environment as much as I do my daughter's, what would I do about this mess on my bathroom counter?" I'm all for giving yourself grace and living in comfy clothes, but it was a good kick in the pants to make decisions "as if I was a person who liked to exercise" or "as if I was a person who felt really proud of what she accomplished today" instead of shame. Each decision is a vote for the person I want to be and am becoming (an idea I learned from James Clear).
