💌 SOWM Digest 038 | It's hell... and it's heaven, too.

I listened to the Call Her Daddy episode. I had to know what all the fuss was about.

Chappell Roan told it like she saw it — parents of young kids are in hell — and she’s not wrong.

No matter how much you personally enjoy motherhood, the facts remain:

⛈️ childcare you can barely afford (if you’re lucky)
⛈️ workplace penalties that affect moms more than dads
⛈️ a school shooting for almost every day of the calendar year
⛈️ a public school system in the crosshairs of our federal government
⛈️ living in one of the wealthiest countries with the worst family leave policies

… the list goes on and on…

(not to mention the more personal ‘hells’ that we face every day as parents… please tell me I’m not the only toddler mom regularly getting poo on her hands! 😝)

And yet, on the flip side, there’s:

🌤️ those sweet, sweet cuddles (even if they increasingly only happen on sick days!)
🌤️ the sonic joys of the tiny pitter patter of feet and giggles filling your home
🌤️ witnessing their pride when they do something well, or for the first time
🌤️ that first time (and honestly any time) your kiddos say “I love you”
🌤️ getting to hear their often silly and sometimes profound insights
🌤️ experiencing the magic of the world again through their eyes

… and this list, too, goes on and on…

And we are better, deeper, more feeling people for it all. And that’s pretty damn special.
